Most rubbish in Mauritius is never sorted. Public collection takes it all mixed together — only a small number of people separate their own plastic to bring to a collection point.

On 20 September, that changes — at national scale, for one day.
Plastic. Glass. Metal. General waste. One shared segregation system, applied island-wide, for the first time. Every volunteer segregates on the spot. NGOs and recycling partners then collect each category directly — so it goes where it actually needs to go, instead of one mixed load with no way to separate it afterward.
